Is the Custom Keto Diet Safe?

There are many misconceptions/rumors about what exactly “keto” is and whether or not keto can be safe. And honestly, it can’t be the “perfect” weight-loss method for everyone.

The truth is that keto isn’t dangerous when done correctly, nor does it cause nutrient deficiencies if done properly – in fact following the proper version of this diet allows you to eat a greater diversity of nutrients!  A prominent cardiologist at Penn Medicine stated, 

I also suspects there are some benefits for the heart and reversing diabetes since it has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity. That’s supported by several studies, like a 2017 review in the journal Nutrients that found that the keto diet improved HDL “good” cholesterol levels and helped reverse the course of type 2 diabetes in patients by controlling blood sugar levels, though “usually in limited time,” the researcher wrote.  In 2018, another study in the  journal Diabetic Medicine found the keto diet in patients with type 1 diabetes was associated with “excellent levels” of blood sugar. 

With that said, if something goes wrong on the diet (either by accident or on purpose), there are risks here too… so make sure two things happen before beginning any sort of low-carb diet:

Make sure you’re healthy and stable enough to do the keto diet and consult with your doctor just to be on the safe side.
